Please note that these comments are also from the writings of Mr. Shomatsu Osada and have been paraphrased from his book The Mysteries of Vinegar.

Colds and Virus Infections:

We tend to treat the common cold as something we must endure because it is almost impossible to avoid. We are irritated by the cough, runny eyes, watery eyes, the stuffy feeling, but we seldom take into account that the common cold could be lethal if it should trigger more dangerous illnesses.

There are several viruses that causes disease or illness. There is the common cold virus, the adeno virus and the influenza virus. They multiply fast when you have a cold and it is the adrenaline in our bodies which fights these viruses. The sooner the virus is conquered, the better, of course. But, if somehow it is allowed to continue its existence, our adrenal glands will soon become exhausted fighting the viruses, then all sorts of diseases may attack us in our weakened condition.

A common cold could become a fatal pneumonia. Thus, it is important to keep our adrenal glands healthy at all times. Taking Vinegar (Citric Acid), along with fruits and vegetables rich in ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) will do exactly that. Maintain a healthy body, especially your adrenal glands and you will be hard pressed to catch a cold.

High Blood Pressure:

High blood pressure indicates that something is wrong with the blood flow. There are three possible reasons for it: (1) The volume of blood has increased for some reason, thereby causing high blood pressure. (2) There is something blocking the arteries, veins or capillaries. ( 3) There is something wrong with the blood itself.

The volume of blood is increased usually because of consuming too much food or alcohol. It may also be caused by too much salt in the diet, as the water content of the red blood cells decreases in order to dilute the excess salt. This in turn makes one feel thirsty, so water is consumed, perhaps excessively, which temporarily increases the blood volume. Moderation in the consumption of food, alcohol and salt is advisable.

Cholesterol deposited on the walls of the blood vessels is the culprit that blocks the arteries, veins and capillaries. In addition to cholesterol, calcium and silicon also agglomerate and harden. This makes the actual diameter of the blood vessels smaller, but the same amount of blood must flow though them, which causes the blood pressure to rise. Although quite rare, certain diseases of blood can raise the blood pressure. The color of the diseased blood will look different, even to the naked eye.

A large percentage of those who suffer from high blood pressure are said to have essential hypertension. They do not appear to have an illness so it is almost impossible to track down the cause. It has been claimed recently that a cramp in the walls of the arteries that fails to disappear quickly may be the cause of this essential hypertension.

We do not know exactly what causes the cramp but what we do know is that the cramp results in the accumulation of lactic acid in the arterial wall muscles. This can be counteracted by taking Vinegar (Citric Acid) which relaxes the muscles and thus releases the tension. Cramps seldom occur in relaxed muscles.

Allow me to comment on the drugs which are reputed to lower the blood pressure. They tend to be effective only in the short range because they are merely tranquilizers. They may help temporarily, but it is easy to become dependent on them and depression may follow. They may give one the illusion of getting better, but they do not get to the root of the problem.

They do not eliminate the cause of the high blood pressure and worrying about it makes it worse. Most cases of high blood pressure is of the essential hypertension variety. No one knows the exact cause of it. If a careful examination is made, it will be found that the lactic acid level is higher than normal, and that one is prone to fatigue and easily irritated.

Recent studies show that the softening of the brain (senility in old age) is on the increase. For instance, a person with blood pressure of 180 has a body so hardened (with harmful lactic acid) that it needs a pressure of 180 to send the blood to all parts of the body. If one lowers the blood pressure of such a person to 150 by medication, some parts of his body will not receive sufficient blood. If that area of deficiency happens to be the brain, softening of the brain (senility) will follow.

The blood carries racemic and amino acids to all parts of the body and carries off waste products, such as urea and carbon dioxide. When there is not sufficient blood, breathing difficulty and malnutrition develop and the body is vulnerable to disease. The human body has inherent difficulty in sending blood to the brain. It means that by nature, man is prone to the softening of the brain caused by this difficulty, which sets in motion the process of decay.

Vinegar (Citric Acid) is recommended to everyone with high blood pressure because it treats the root of the problem. By taking Vinegar (Citric Acid), high blood pressure may be brought down over a period of time even for people in their sixties. Younger or healthier people may regain normal blood pressure even more quickly. People older than sixty may need several months, but eventually they too may get better. Even some supposedly "hopeless" cases have recovered to have healthy normal blood pressure.

There are a few other things to observe in addition to using Vinegar (Citric Acid).

OBESITY: One must be sure not to be excessively overweight as your heart has to work harder when you are. Control of food intake should be combined with daily exercise.

EXCESS SALT IN THE DIET: Too much salt is not only harmful but it is bad for the complexion. It is much better to flavor food with Vinegar (Citric Acid).

A "VITAMIN RICH" DIET: Vitamins A, B, C, E, K, P and U, plus iron, calcium and copper are found in green leafy vegetables. These are readily available, inexpensive and delicious when served as a salad with a vinaigrette dressing. Fruits also contain these important vitamins and minerals as well as that important Vinegar (Citric Acid).

"EGGS" AND "MEAT" IN THE DIET: We found that while the protein and fat they provide are important to good health, Vinegar (Citric Acid) should accompany their consumption to control the production of cholesterol.

VEGETABLE OILS: Lecithin, from vegetable oils mop up cholesterol deposits on the walls of the blood vessels. Other good sources of lecithin are nuts, peas and beans.

Arteriosclerosis:

It is easy for someone with high blood pressure to develop arteriosclerosis, but the reverse is not necessarily true. As we get older, all of us are at some risk of getting arteriosclerosis whether we have high or low blood pressure. But people who suffer from high blood pressure suffer the most from hardening of the arteries because in them it progresses rapidly, causing harmful effects on the heart, the brain and the kidneys.

It is possible to reduce high blood pressure with Vinegar (Citric Acid), but it is more difficult to cure arteriosclerosis. Therefore, one must try not to reach that critical point. Learning to relax, avoiding anger, avoiding worry, reducing excessive weight and avoiding harmful foods are essential if we are to prevent the flow of quinine from excess adrenaline in the blood.

Even when you think you have been cured, you must not revert to the unhealthy eating and living habits that gave you the illness in the first place. Except for a few extracts from vegetables, such as methionine, there aren’t many substances that can alleviate arteriosclerosis. A balanced diet and life style is very important. The adage "YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT" is really true.

The Liver

The liver is perhaps the most important organ in the body. All the organs, including the brain and the heart, depend on the liver for the nutrients they need. The liver is where the nutrients from the food we consume are stored until they are sent out to other parts of the body as needed. Any waste materials, which may or may not be poisonous, are also taken care of in the liver and the liver plays an important part in the digestion of fats.

We tend to abuse this important organ. How do we go about protecting our liver? First of all, the body should not be overworked. Second, we should not over eat or over drink; moderation in both eating and drinking is of primary importance. Third, we should avoid artificial flavoring, preservatives, bleaches and insecticides. Fourth, we should not exert any external pressure on the liver.

You may wonder what really happens to the liver when you eat or drink excessively. It gets weaker and then it swells a bit. The reason for the swelling is the influx of fat from the other parts of the body to the liver. This happens in order to protect the liver. All would be well at this stage if no further abuses were committed. But if we keep drinking too much or eating harmful foods, the cholesterol in the fat begins to effect the liver, making it harden. A seriously hardened liver cannot function at all.

To prevent this from happening, we must include enough methionine (amino acid) and colline (fat) in the diet. Both of these are found in lean meat, fish and eggs. Fat on the whole is bad for the liver but vegetable oils are all right, especially if Vinegar (Citric Acid) is included in sufficient quantity. Years of abuse to this vital organ can be corrected with the help of Vinegar (Citric Acid) because the citric acid helps the liver to function properly.

Vinegar (Citric Acid) may be taken before consuming alcohol. One gets inebriated because of the accumulation of acetaldehyde from alcohol in the blood, due to non-aerobic respiration. If you consume Vinegar (Citric Acid), accumulation of acetaldehyde is much lower. Even when you have had too much to drink, Vinegar (Citric Acid) will still be effective in helping your liver handle the problem.

One sign of an ailing liver is the complexion of the owner! Sometimes brown patches appear on the skin, especially on the face. An unhealthy liver cannot cope with the excess melanin brought on by the sun. The sun light triggers the production of vitamin D in the skin. While vitamin D is essential for healthy bones and teeth, too much of it causes the production of melanin.

Usually the liver absorbs the excess melanin but when the liver is not functioning properly, these unsightly brown patches appear. To get rid of them as well as prevent them, you should consume Vinegar (Citric Acid). Vinegar (Citric Acid) in solution may also be used as facial or body wash. Vinegar (Citric Acid) will improve skin tone significantly.

The Kidneys:

The kidneys are only about 10 cm long but they are very important. They filter out all the toxins, which are poisonous substances floating in the blood. They purify the blood. Consider the volume of liquid they have to deal with and you can imagine how hard they must work. The kidneys purify about 150 liters of fluid a day and extract 1.5 liters of poisonous waste which become urine. When one remembers how small they are, one must admire the kidneys! But we do abuse them a great deal. One of the worst offenses is waiting too long before relieving by urinating. That habit can be injurious to the kidneys and the bladder.

Stress:

Perhaps you have heard of the "Stress Theory". Dr. Serie from Canada has proposed a theory that stress can trigger acid dyspepsia, stomach ulcers, duodenum ulcers, arteriosclerosis, high blood pressure, etc. A number of things can cause stress, the weather, infections, noise, pollution and many other things. But isn’t it strange that while our lives in this modern age are so vulnerable to stress, most of us are not defeated by it? We remain basically healthy. Why? Dr. Serie believes that adrenaline is the key to this mystery.

First, let us explain what this adrenaline is. It comes from the adrenal glands which are located above the kidneys in human beings. There are layers within these glands and each layer produces a different hormone. The core of the gland is where the adrenaline is secreted. From the first layer, the steroid hormone, from the second layer the cortisone and from the third layer the sex hormones are secreted. All these hormones including the adrenaline work together to protect us from the harmful effect of stress.

In other words, they form a natural defense system in our bodies. We become ill when stress is too great to bear or when the adrenal gland does not secrete enough of these hormones. What can we do in this case? First of all, we must learn to relax. Rest and recreation are very important. Equally important is to eat a healthy diet and take Vinegar (Citric Acid) to enhance the efficiency of the adrenal glands. This in turn will help in fighting stress.

While the kidneys purify the fluids in our bodies and expel the waste product such as urine, Vinegar (Citric Acid) purifies the urine. The kidneys are quite vulnerable and can even be ruined by cold medicines which contain sulfur derivatives because these can form little stones in the kidneys. These stones can be excruciatingly painful to pass with the urine, and may also contain some blood. The urine can become very cloudy from certain infections. However, many people have cured themselves of these ailments by adopting a healthy diet that includes taking Vinegar (Citric Acid).

Asthma:

If one is afflicted with asthma, you may notice a beneficial change within seven days of starting a daily ration of Vinegar (Citric Acid) in your diet. In cold climates, it may take longer for the results.

Low Blood Pressure, Anemia, Gastroptosis:

A surprisingly large number of people suffer from low blood pressure. They tire easily and very often are anemic, which means a deficiency of red blood cells. Perhaps they are not eating enough meat or fish, or perhaps their stomach and intestines are not functioning properly, resulting in the inefficient absorption of nutrients. If one has low blood pressure and if in spite of eating a protein-rich diet are still anemic, start taking a little Vinegar (Citric Acid). It aids the digestive processes controlling germs as well as providing an extra boost of energy. Most people who have low blood pressure are under weight. Along with plenty of protein consumption, they should increase their intake of vegetable oils because of their high calorie content. But the oils should be counter-balanced with Vinegar (Citric Acid) for proper disbursement of cholesterol and to avoid a problem of diarrhea, which sometimes accompanies an excessive intake of oils.

Gastroptosis results from an insufficient secretion of digestive juices in the stomach. Why does that happen? Usually it is that the muscles in the walls of the stomach are too weak and therefore cannot trigger the secretion of the digestive juices. Vinegar (Citric Acid) helps to break down the food in the stomach, thus it compensates for the insufficient digestive enzymes. This in turn will strengthen the stomach muscles through increased efficiency in the digestion. A strong stomach does not accommodate gastroptosis.

Diabetes:

Insulin injections are the usual treatment for diabetics, but insulin can make the pancreas increasingly lazy and eventually it may stop making insulin altogether. Therefore, it is desirable to give support to the panaceas instead of providing a substitute for its function. Rest, diet and exercise never lose their importance, but many people report that they have been cured of diabetes in a short time by merely taking large quantities of Vinegar (Citric Acid). Originally they were not suffering from the deficiency of insulin, but from the imbalance caused by insulin. Vinegar (Citric Acid) will help reverse the imbalance to its normal balanced state.

Fatigue:

Fatigue comes from an accumulation of pyroracemic and lactic acid. When ones pH is acidic, the above mentioned bad acids accumulate. These acids stiffen the muscles and prevent them from working efficiently. By eliminating these acids, one can eliminate fatigue. To do this, the Citric Acid Cycle (Krebs Cycle) must work efficiently. Vinegar (Citric Acid) helps the cycle to work efficiently.

Beauty Aids and Complexion:

If you consume Vinegar (Citric Acid) regularly, the liver will work more efficiently and ones metabolism will be improved. The liver breaks down melanin and it is helpful in preventing age spots. Citric Acid may be used in the bath water, as a body wash or a facial wash. Normal skin is a little acidic, Citric Acid will preserve that.
